Northern Electric Baby Champ Model 5002-3L
Model 5002-3L
|
Thanks to Mr. Gord Neish of Langham, Saskatchewan for bringing this model to my attention and providing the photos below. While he was in the process of restoring a Model 5110M, Gord noted that the label was partly worn away. Underneath, he observed a second model label marked "Model 5002-3L". Of interest is that fact that this model is rated at 110-125 volts and 50 watts, unlike other models of the same voltage rated at 30 watts. A printing error? This model was apparently manufactured for Westrex. Was this a 110 volt version of the 220 volt radio also built for Westrex? Other interesting facts that the original tube location label can partly be seen showing a 35L6GT output amplifier tube. Above this is the second 5110M tube location label showing a 50L6GT ouput amplifier tube. It is well known that Northern Electric reused backs originally manufactured for other models and simply pasted new labels over the original. An example are Model 5002 back labels which have worn away revealing original Model 5002-4 labels. If anyone has any more information about this (or any other) model, I would appreciate hearing from them. Given the 5002 model prefix, is is probably safe to assume that the tube complement was identical to other 5002 models. Since the Model 5002-4 made for Westrex utilized the R8143-32 dial, it is reasonable the assume that the same dial was used for the Model 5002-3L. The back and label photos are courtesy of Mr. Gord Neish. The dial and radio photos on this page are used to illustrate what a Model 5002-3L probably would look like. I would love to see photos of an actual example of this radio if someone has one. Tube Complement?: 1. 12SA7: Converter
2. 12SK7: IF Amplifier
3. 12SQ7: 2nd Detector, AVC, 1st Audio Amplifier
4. 35L6GT: Output Amplifier
5. 35Z5GT: Rectifier
