Whether your vehicle is 6 or 12 volt, negative or positive ground, we can assist. Retro Radio Shop has developed a number of proprietary replacement components and systems. As an example, If your vintage or antique car radio has an original mechanical vibrator, we can replace it with our, in house desinged, SSV board.
A typical Retro, Classic & Vintage Car Radio Repair or servicing includes the following:
- Chassis cleaned, where needed
- Initial voltages, load and stage gain testing performed for a baseline
- Vibrator supplies tested /Solid State replacements (Buffer caps always replaced)
- Tube sockets, potentiometers, band switches etc. De-oxidized
- Tuning clutch mechanism serviced/adjusted
- Dial cord pulleys and tuning capacitor lubricated

Preset mechanism cleaned/light lubrication
- Electrolytic capacitors ESR tested and replaced as required
- Tubes/transistors tested
- Out of spec resistors replaced, as required
- Crumbling wire insulation replaced, if needed
- The RF and IF sections aligned
- Before and after photos provided, upon request
- Bench tested after electronic "Surgery" for 2 hours
We also service Vintage 8 Track and Casette Car Radios. In addition to above, the following is performed:
- Tape path cleaned of oxides
- Pinch rollers cleaned and staff lightly lubricated
- New belt
- Capstan shaft burnished and bushings lightly lubricated
- Head cleaned
- Idler rubber treated
- Degaussing performed
- Tape speed checked with audio tone spectrum analyzer
